Sean is no stranger to individual and team development with over two decades experience of leading teams in some of the world's most hostile environments.

A life as inspirational as achievements are measureable.


As a record breaking explorer Sean has been a pioneering figure in pushing the envelope of polar adventure, developing high performing teams to achieve some of the most remarkable polar journeys of recent times.

Sean has planned, managed and led over twenty high risk polar expeditions with more than 700 days living beyond the Arctic and Antarctic Circles and skiing more than 6,000km earning himself the nickname 'The Ice Man™' along the way.

With an earlier career as an Officer in the elite Royal Marines Sean has had wide operational experience with military experiences from across the globe.

Future Expeditions

International Scott Centenary Expedition 2012

Expedition planning and preparations in progress to commemorate Captain Scott's 1910-1913 expedition to the South Pole. Expedition will retrace part of Scott's original journey, and joined by descendents of Scott's men, hold a memorial service at Scott's last camp. The expedition is endorsed by the Scott Polar Research Institute as one the many projects being run to mark the Scott's centenary. explore more

Team Siberia 2010

Lake Baikal is the biggest lake in the World, and is roughly the size of France. During winter the team will aim to travel the full 700km length of the lake hauling sledges packed with food, fuel and equipment that weigh more than 100kg. Completed Expeditions

Expedition Polar Quest (South Pole) 2007
The World's Toughest Journey

In January 2007, Sean organised and led a record-breaking ski to the South Pole and on the return stage used giant traction kites traveling up to 75 miles a day. Sean hand picked the team, all novices to the polar arena, and trained them into a high performance team. The journey has been completed by less people than have stood on the moon!

Expedition Folgefon Flight (Norway) 2006
Para-Ski of the Folgefon Glacier, Norway

Sean led an expedition to the Folgefon Glacier of Norway to conduct a weeks para-ski expedition. The team completed long distance para-skis with sledges across the glacier.

Expedition Polar Watch (High Arctic) 2006

UK Student IT Expedition to Magnetic North Pole
Patron : Sir Ranulph Fiennes

Sean supported the planning and execution of the Exmouth Community College 'Polar Watch' Expedition. An expedition for 8 students (aged 14-18) to undertake adventurous and cultural activities in the Canadian High Arctic. The expedition engaged with schools across the Globe with daily live interactive lessons and discussion forums on the Internet. The Polar Watch expedition was one of the most ambitous student interactive expeditions of recent times.

Expedition Polar Quest (North Pole '96) 2006
Record Breaker : In the Footsteps of Parry to the '96 North Pole
Patron : Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent

Venturing deep into the Arctic Sean led the first expedition to retrace the footsteps of Lieutenant Edward Parry, leader of the first overland expedition by the Royal Navy in 1918. Despite several setbacks, including an emergency air extraction of a team member due to frostbite, he reached the magnetic North Pole after a 450 mile journey. Aside form Sean none of the team had ever been to the Polar Regions and two members had never skied before!

Expedition Finse Haul (Norway) 2005
Ski of the Hardangavida, Norway

Sean leads a team of novices to Finse in Norway - the training ground for the famous Captain Robert Scott. The team enjoyed skiiing, navigation in blizzard conditions and travelling across the same terrain that Scott's expedition travelled over. The expedition culminated in ice-breaking drills.

Expedition Polar Watch (North Pole) 1999
Record Breaker : First UK Student Expedition to the Magnetic North Pole
Patrons : Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Colonel Blashford-Snell

Sean supported and guided the first UK student expedition to the Arctic and magnetic North Pole. The expedition also conducted cultural and adventurous activities including living in an Inuit community, Polar bear watching, survival training, scientific research and a journey to the North Pole. Learning was shared across the globe through an interactive 'Learning by Adventure' website. explore more

Expedition Polar North (North Pole) 1999
First Attempt at Skiing to the Geographical North Pole

After two years planning Sean led his first official expedition to attempt to reach the geographical North Pole. Unfortunately, after safety equipment failed Sean aborted his attempt and then led a remarkable return journey to safety in some of the worst weather on polar record. The expediton was supported Sean later received a message from Buckingham Palace stating ‘Discretion is better than Disaster’ and in recognition of his spirit of adventure Sean was invited to Buckingham Palace on his return.

Expedition Ice Connections (Northwest Passage) 1998
Equipment Trials Expedition in the High Arctic

Sean spent 8-weeks living in the Inuit Hamlet of Resolute Bay and traveled along the Northwest Passage testing and trialing a variety of equipment and rations on behalf of UK commercial companies.

Expedition Frozen Fields (Northwest Passage) 1997
Ski of the Northwest Passage to Commemorate British Polar Exploration

Hauling all essential supplies Sean spent 3-months skiing the Northwest Passage in temperatures of –50ºC, during which he was stalked by a Polar bear for three days. Commemorating naval Arctic exploration, remembrance services were held at historical landmarks during the journey.

Expedition Africana Adventure (Africa) 1996
Circumnavigation fo the East African States by Public Transport

Traveling on foot, cycle and horseback Sean spent three months circumnavigating the east african states of Kenya, Uganda, Rwanada, Burundi, Zaire and Tanzania. Highlights included climbing Mount Kenya, sharing a meal with the pygmy tribes of Uganda, coming face to face with the mountain gorillas of Zaire and escaping from Rwanda at the onset of a military coup.

Expedition Icelandic 500 (Iceland) 1994
Record Breaker : The First Ski Crossing of Iceland from West to East Coast
Patrons : Diana, The Princess of Wales

Thought uncrossable, Sean planned and led the first ever ski crossing of Iceland; 500-miles in 47 days, leading his team through blizzards, hail and rain. For the other members of Sean team this was their first involvement in a major expedition. Sean received the 'Keeling Award' for leadership on his return. The expedition raised over £50,000 for Spinal Research.

Expedition Northern Traverse (Norway) 1993

Sean has led several ski expeditions to Norway, usually as a training ground in preparation for one his larger ventures and as a qualified ski instructor has been a frequent winter visitor to Norway. In 1993 he led a particulalry demanding venture of crossing the Rondane with laden sledges in a 5-week expedition. Sections of the crossing were snowless forcing his team to carry sledges and equipment on their backs.

Expedition Grand Canyon Ironman (Arizona USA) 1992
Multi-Endurance Challenge Across Arizona, USA

Sean organised and led an endurance fund raising event in aid of Childhood Cancer to the USA. The challenge saw Sean lead his
10-man team on a 250 mile cycle over the San Francisco Mountains, trek 30 miles through the Grand Canyon, run 120 miles through the Painted Desert before culminating with a 5 mile swim. The expedition raised over £30,000 for the charity.

Expedition Kenyan Odyssey (Kenya) 1989

The first expedition that Sean lead was a 4 strong 6-week expedition to trek and climb Mount Kenya.
